San Francisco

What a big day we had! First off, it was an absolutely gorgeous day even though it was a little chilly in the morning. We had purchased tickets for Alcatraz and knew we needed to be at the ferry pier by 9:40am. So, we decided to get up early and have breakfast in the city. After a pleasant Uber ride, we arrived at Mama’s on Washington Square. They opened at 8:00 and there was line before they opened (we were in it). Good food in, what seems to be, an old established San Francisco hot spot. Then it was off to the Pier. Of course, we were early, but we were able to get on an earlier ferry so it all worked out. Alcatraz was interesting. There was even someone there who used to be a prisoner! Put that in the been there done that category. Since we were so far ahead of schedule, we decided to take a bus to Fort Point at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge. Public transportation is just another part of the adventure! It was a beautiful walk from the bus stop down to Fort Point. The various views of the Golden Gate Bridge made it all worthwhile. Afterwards, we walked to the Presidio Visitor Center to get our National Historic Site stamps. Then it was time to hop on another bus to head back into the city to go to an Apple Store (need cables to connect to our tv when we have no wifi in the RV) and to San Francisco Library branch to pick up, yet another, library card! By, this time, we were starting to get hungry and thirsty. So, we wandered around and got a great recommendation for a place called Perry’s on Union Street that had the right atmosphere for the end of a wonderful day in the City by the Bay!
