Fremont - Trip Final

Image
Well, we have come to the end of this road. Today, we visited the Eugene O’Neil National Historic Site. Very idyllic setting and even more so when he would have lived there with only one neighbor in site at the time, instead of the gated HOA community of hat is there now. Our last night of camping is at the the Dumbarton Quarry Campsite. We are having our first fire on this trip. Roasted sausages and had marshmallows for dessert - what can be finer?  We are headed home tomorrow with thoughts of our next RV adventure on our minds…

Rodeo, CA

Friday was a travel day and a rainy day. Got three new library cards in the process! Also went to the John Muir National Historic Site. This was his home for the last 20 or so years of his life. Nice old Victorian style house with a bell in the attic tower that you could ring!! Then we went to the Rosie the Riveter National Historic Park. Interesting setting in an old Ford Assembly Plant. After that, headed to our home for the evening that is a Harvest Host Site. This one is The Four Fools Winery. There are three other RVs here. An interesting spot with views of the bay and the occasional passing train. We went to the tasting room last night and met two of the other couples in the RVs. It was enjoyable to hear their travel stories and plans while drinking mediocre wine…

Bodega - Final

Image
Our last day in Bodega Bay. A little overcast and intermittent rain. A perfect time for a down day. Did some final touchups on the spot painting for DuEtte and  tried again to connect  to the campground cable service, but no success. It’s a good thing we don’t watch much tv. I’ll just leave you with the full moon from last night…

Bodega Bay & Beyond

We decided to get out and play tourist today. There are two out of the norm attractions right near our campsite that we visited. One is a tribute of bells to a Bodega boy who died tragically in Italy and became a catalyst for a movement in Europe for organ donations - very poignant! Afterwards, we went by the church where Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds was filmed, less moving, but still a point of interest. Then, on to our continuing hunt for new library cards. Today’s targets were Sonoma County and Napa County. As an added bonus, the roads just meander through lush rolling hills of wildflowers and grapevines. It was a beautiful day for a drive. We ended our travels with Nan getting some oysters and a lobster roll. Not a bad day…

Bodega Bay Cont’d

Typically, Nan and I have a weekly competition where whichever of wins the cumulative golf competition for the week (The Omelette Bowl) makes the other an ‘omelette’ on Sunday. Well, we were busy on Sunday and Monday was a travel day, so, today was the day. Nan made me a wonderful fried egg sandwich (an appropriate substitute for the omelette) - cooked outdoors while we were entertained by the dock workers and overlooked the Marina - just perfect! Then, it was some DuEtte maintenance and down time for the rest of the day. While driving into the Marina, the driver (Jeanette) took a corner too tightly and clipped a pine tree. This was evidenced by the pine needles hanging off of the RV that Nan was quick to point out. So, one of today’s duties was to climb on the roof and inspect the damage. Luckily, there was no damage, just a few pine sprigs stuck under a solar panel - phew! But, another reason to be thankful for the last minute add on to the RV of the external ladder. While not as win...

Bodega Bay

Travel day! We always start off travel days with excitement and the anticipation of unknown discoveries - that’s what makes traveling so much of an adventure. Today, we started off with breakfast at a little place (Farm House Local) in downtown Larkspur - very cute town!! Then, or course, we had to go back to the Apple Store to return what J bought because it was the wrong cord !?! But, luckily, that allowed us to browse the Allbirds store (thank you Richard!) and buy some ‘baby needs some new shoes!’ Of course, that was only after Nan strayed into the Lucid dealership!! But, back to traveling, we then headed out of the city to Point Reyes National Seashore. What a wonder of nature so close to such a large metropolitan. Marshes, grasslands, sea, forests, oh my! And, what about the Tule Elk? A California sub-species of the greater North American Elk. They were almost extinct (maybe 1 of 2 left) when they were re-discovered and an effort was made to save and re-introduce them to their na...

Marin County Cont’d

We stumbled into a RV campground that is in a great location for us. This morning, we were able to walk about 1/2 a mile to the Ferry terminal which happened to be the shuttle pickup location for Muir Woods. We were on the first shuttle out we were grateful that someone else was doing the driving  on the winding 2-lane road. The woods were majestic! It reminded me so much of my time at Humboldt State (now Cal Poly Humboldt). After exploring the woods, we took the shuttle back to the Ferry terminal and walked across the street to a great little Mexican restaurant for lunch. Then it was a short walk back to Duette to rest up. While thinking about our plans for tomorrow, we realized that there was an Apple Store within walking distance. So, I decided to make my, now daily, trip to Apple to return a cord that didn’t work for us and pick up another. We are still struggling with the right configuration to watch shows without Internet access. We are getting closer…
