Death Valley_2023-Day 7

Well, here we are at the Southwest LTV Roadrunners Rally in Las Vegas! Our first full day was full of seminars and can I say, “drinking from a fire hydrant”? So much information.  We learned a lot, and also learned that we have so much more to learn.  Our first 3 hours this morning was for a tech talk - basically a bunch of information about the essentials of our rigs (remember, everyone here has a rig made by the same manufacturer, just maybe a different floorplan and/or chassis). Topics of note for J were: Lithium Battery voltage thresholds, Chassis battery disconnect procedures, electrical cord hookup procedures, outlet designations for what is ‘hot’ when you are running ‘x’, generator maintenance procedures, water pressure regulator threshold management, San-E-Flush procedures (don’t ask), along with a myriad of tips from disinfecting the water faucet before hooking up, to take all of your decorative covers off of your lug nuts before taking your vehicle into any ser...

Death Valley_2023-Days 3-6

Sorry for the delayed post! The cell tower in Death Valley was down and we were untethered for 3 whole days - ARGHHHH!!  In any event, we are still alive and you didn’t miss too much… Day 3 Summary: It may have just been because of all of our recent rains, but we left Bakersfield on ‘highway’ 178 and it was so gloriously beautiful!! The first section was VERY curvy, but manageable and resulted in fewer cars and more time to enjoy the wonders of nature with sheer mountainsides, actual flowing water, and the stereotypical verdant of Ireland. If you have the chance - highly recommended.  After a while, the exceptional beauty turned to a different beauty with the snow-capped Sierra Nevadas.  We headed North toward Lone Pine, CA to visit an Inyo County Library (very grumpy because they require local residency for a library card - Exclusionists!), and the Manzanar National Historic Site (very well done depiction of the Internment Camps - sad, but educational). Then into Death V...

Death Valley_2023-Day 2

We were soooo excited to wake up and have breakfast at the golf course which, we thought, opened at 7:30.  Well, then we realized that both of us forgot to bring the underwear!!!  Well, if that was the worst of it, all is good.  But, breakfast didn’t open until 8:30!!  So, switch gears, let’s go out to breakfast.  What a luxury…Wait for it…our slide doesn’t go back in as it should :(…What to do?  After several attempts, it is still cattywompus.  Not sure what else to do, so we call our Roadside Assistance number.  No problem.  It will be about 90 minutes for a technician to come out and help us…2 hours later, we call the contact number for the technician…He says “not sure what you are talking about, did you call us?”  Yikes!  Back to square 1…So, about 2pm, the technician shows up.  Long story short, after 2 hours and much back and forth and repeating of the same actions that have the same results, he “forces” our slide to clos...

Death Valley Trip_2023-Day 1

Our first night out on this trip and our first stay at a Harvest Host site!  We are staying at a beautiful golf course in Bakersfield called the Links at Riverlakes Ranch. We’ve already had one member welcome us and then brought his wife over once she got off of work to see our rig. We have a great view between the driving range and the chipping course. Nice and and quiet with two other RVers parked here as well.  The travel here was relatively uneventful. We ate a wonderful breakfast at the club this morning. Then, it took us a little longer than we thought to load the few things we had left. So, we hit the road just after 11. We had a stop in Buttonwillow looking for a non-existent library. Then we found a library in Bakersfield so J could get her Kern County library card. That makes 4 and counting… We hit the road in the morning for Death Valley!
